National Teacher Appreciation Month

Today is National Teacher Appreciation Day. As early as 1944, teachers called for a national day to honor educators. In 1980 the National Education Association (NEA) lobbied congress to create such a day, and March 7, 1980 was observed as National Teacher Day that year. The organization continued to celebrate the day in March each year until deciding in 1985 to change the event to the beginning of May.

In fact, the entire month of May is designated as Teacher Appreciation Month. You can participate in many ways, the easiest way being to send a thank you greeting. Just click on the thank you note picture below.

Free Comic Book Day~May 3

Saturday, May 3, is Free Comic Book Day! Participating Comic book shops will give away free comic books.

Follow this link to see a list of participating shops. Here’s advice for a successful Free Comic Book Day from Galley Cat:

Call your local comic shop, check out their Facebook page and/or website to see what their Free Comic Book Day policy plans are in addition to what extra events are going to be taking place during their FCBD. Some comics shops give out 1-2 comics, while others give out more. It is good to know how many comics you can expect to get for free so you can plan out if you want to visit other comics shops to see if you can get more free comics and different books.
