Values can be characterized as arbitrary (individual or institutional choice reigns), acceptable (current conditions or culture dictate what matters most), and authority (tied to the consumer, ‘what sells’ is often the basis for values). I refer to values as a weak word. We need strong terms that clearly designate our intentions.
A better word is virtue which describes ‘conformity to a standard or right.’ In church history, Augustine, Aquinas, and others subscribed to justice, prudence, temperance, and courage as key virtues.” ~ Mark D. Eckel, I Just Need Time to Think!

Weekend Ed Quote ~ October 21

“Our goal is to build an amiable school, where children, teachers and families feel at home. Such a school requires careful thinking and planning concerning procedures, motivations and interests. It must embody ways of getting along together, of intensifying relationships.”

Weekend Ed. Quote ~ October 14

Honoring Ada Byron Lovelace who began the design of the analytical engine, which, in her words “might act upon other things besides number, were objects found whose mutual fundamental relations could be expressed by those of the abstract science of operations… Supposing, for instance, that the fundamental relations of pitched sounds in the science of harmony and of musical composition were susceptible of [mathematical] expression and adaptations, the engine might compose elaborate and scientific pieces of music of any degree of complexity or extent.”
