Alternatives to Online Course Comms

Bright Ideas#EFH: Alternatives to Online Course Communication

  1. Audio Posting for Discussion Boards: Students can use in-course audio and vid feature … to submit their posts, reflections, journal entries, short assignments.
** Examples: Canvas, Edmodo, YouTubeLive,  Flipgrid, Loom, Collab Ultra in Blackboard, Google Meet, Zoom, etc
  2. Google Type is a adaptive alternative to written assignments. Students (and the teachers who love them) can use Google Type to submit posts, reflections, journal entries, short assignments, etc. Early learners love to see their words scroll across a Google document as they speak! (Older learners like this too!) Here is a short video with show-hows:
  3. Google Type is also an excellent option for transcription for diverse learning compliance. I create transcripts for instructions, communications, etc… I use the resulting file transcription and Google Translate options so that all learners can have access in their preferred language.
  4. From Julie Jones’ Twitter Feed: “Create online experiences that encourage connections. Connections to family, connections to nature, connections to new understandings.”
