2. The Brain is highly dynamic

3. Emotion influences the ability to learn

4. Mistakes are an essential part of learning A recent study found that students performed better in school and felt more confident when they were told that failure was a normal part of learning, bolstering a growing body of research that suggests much of the same.

Tech BFF: Josie’s Poems

BFF is an acronym for “Best Friend Forever.” These websites and tips are so good that they will become your technology BFFs!

My daughter’s first unit when school begins in a few weeks, my daughter’s first unit is scheduled for Poetry.

Ah, the astuteness of curriculum planning…middle school kids, a new school year, triple digit heat, and poetry.
I am emailing my daughter a linkable gift to Josie’s Poems, a happy, inviting website that celebrates poetry, encourages readers to write poems, and even offers a Skype interview with the poet herself, Josie Whitehead.

“I’ve written about 1000 poems now and I would say that easily half of the poems are suitable for secondary schools, ESL teenagers and adults,” writes Josie.

Teaching in ESL

Diversity is one of the earmarks of today’s classroom, and chances are if you have never had an ESL student in your classroom, somewhere along the way you will.

Working with ESL students is often very rewarding and can bring an exciting dynamic into the classroom, while also offering a challenge.

Cammy Harbison explains more in her post 8 things your ESL students need but won’t tell you

Tech BFF: Titanpad: Online Real-Time Editor

BFF is an acronym for “Best Friend Forever.” These websites and tips are so good that they will become your technology BFFs!

I sent an email yesterday volunteering to help with a project.

I wrote, “I would welcome the opportunity to help with your Coomon Core Intiative”

Reread my sentence and you will see the two glaring, ghastly errors.
Probably need an Editor (or a new pair of Readers) more urgently than I realize.

Emre Fırat’s  blog recommends a collaborative real-time editor that will definitely help with editing my online courses.  The Titanpad is similar to Google Docs; it lets you work on one document simultaneously.

When you go to titanpad.com click on “Create public pad” and your document is ready… You can import HTML, Word or RTF files and export your document as HTML, Plain Text, Word, PDF, Bookmark file or OpenDocument.

There is an App For That: Common Core

Splaysoft, LLC has an iPhone/iPad App called Common Core Look Fors that helps educators integrate the Common Core State Standards into their classroom. The app covers Mathematics, Technology, English Language Arts. ELA was recently updated. This App costs $2.99 and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.Requires iOS 5.0 or later.

I like this one because it comprehesively includes Math, Tech, and ELA as opposed to others which treat each subject separately.
